Tui Na (twee-na) Tui Na is a Chinese form of bodywork therapy which includes acupressure and the use of hand techniques to massage the soft tissue (muscles and tendons) of the body. External herbal compresses, liniments, and salves are also used to enhance its therapeutic effects. Tui Na is a highly skilled form of bodywork therapy which is commonly used for internal medicine, external medicine, orthopedics, psychiatry, gynecology, and pediatrics.
Unlike other forms of bodywork which also incorporate acupressure techniques, Tui Na is not intended for a sedating, relaxing ‘massage’. Tui Na tends to be more focused on the task at hand then other forms of bodywork. It is used for treating specific areas which need attention and it is often used in conjunction with other treatment modalities.
