Acupuncture & Moxibustion: (Acu-Moxa therapy)

acu-moxaAcupuncture, the most commonly thought of technique within Chinese Medicine is only one treatment method within the medical system. Modern Acupuncture uses very fine stainless steel, single use, disposable needles to stimulate points on the body. These points referred to as Acupuncture points are thus stimulated to produce a desired therapeutic effect.

Insertion of needles is quite comfortable and typically barely felt. Once inserted, needles are often stimulated by hand, with an electric device or with heat to further the therapeutic effect.

Heating of Acupuncture points is referred to as Moxibustion which produces a comfortable deeply warming sensation; as well as being very relaxing. Moxa derives its name from the Japanese term “Moe Kusa” which means burning herb. The herb used in Moxibustion is artemesia vulgaris (mugwort) which when burned does not flame and can produce very strong heat.
